Beat the Creature Decks with Alchemy Naya Velomachus!

Alchemy Naya Velomachus by Eliott Boussaud

I have a very spicy Alchemy brew for you today by none other than Eliott Boussaud, also known as Eliott_Dragon – Naya Velomachus! This is one of the coolest decks I have seen in a long time and I’m in awe of how Eliott came up with this combination of cards in the first place.

Velomachus LoreholdLorehold Command

On first glance, you might dismiss what’s going on here, but each card serves a unique purpose and combined, they form a powerful strategy. This deck is essentially trying to ramp into Velomachus Lorehold and cast impactful spells with the mighty Dragon, with Lorehold Command being the standout.

The new card from Innistrad Alchemy, Settle the Wilds, glues the deck together. It will always get you Key to the Archive on turn three, because that’s the only four mana permanent in the deck. Drizzt Do’Urden, Returned Pastcaller and Bookwurm are all there because of Settle the Wilds, giving you a selection of threats to fetch up at each spot in the mana curve. And most importantly, Settle the Wilds can tutor up Velomachus Lorehold, the card truly shines in this deck. With Begin Anew, you get access to a four-mana Wrath of God variant, a luxury that we are not used to in Standard/Alchemy lately.

This deck certainly looks to face creature decks like Gruul Werewolves all day long. Control perhaps less so, but the sideboard has quite the arsenal to fight those decks. Paladin Class and Elite Spellbinder tax the blue opponents nicely. The combination of Suntail Squadron and Wedding Announcement will give you endless strings of creatures to outgrind your opponent. Suntail Squadron is exceptionally good versus Go Blank; the lower you are on cards in hand, the more Birds you will get. The card is slow, but when you get it going, you will surely feel Souls lingering around you.

This is one of the coolest Alchemy decks I have seen so far. I’m excited to see it evolve and I can’t wait to try it myself!

  1. I sure can’t understand this or how these cards even interact in a meaningful way.
