Think Fast — A Rapid Strike Urshifu VMAX Preview

Hello again readers, I’m back with you today with my first article on the technically unreleased Battle Styles set. We’ve had knowledge of what was likely in the set for a while now, and that means a bunch of decks have been slowly constructed in the back of my mind. The card that has stood out the most to me so far is the Rapid Strike Urshifu VMAX, because of how efficient it is with its attacks. To be honest, I would almost always have preferred the Single Strike Urshifu to have been better because it resembles a Buzzwole-GX style deck, but the card is just so inefficient. In general, the whole Rapid Strike/Single Strike mechanic doesn’t strike me as very special, but hopefully that changes with future sets.

When you first look at this card, there doesn’t seem to be that much synergy between the two attacks. 150 damage for a single Energy is incredibly powerful, and that’s the attack that I’m envisioning this version of the deck using the most. However, the second attack is as far from useless as physically possible. At the cost of discarding all your attached Energy, you can do 120 damage to two of your opponent’s Benched Pokemon. While not quite on the level of a Tag Bolt GX, this attack is incredibly good.

In general, I dislike engines that are only functional for one deck, and that’s exactly what the Rapid Strike cards are with only one set of them released. you finally printed support Pokemon that weren’t raw draw power, but they’re only usable with each Urshifu VMAX. In the future, I expect certain decks to utilize Octillery to search out the Target Whistle-style card that is being printed eventually, but that’s months away. Here’s the list:
