Deck Highlight — Standard Lucmetal / Zacian

There hasn’t been an update for Lucario & Melmetal-GX / Zacian V here for a minute. Josh Sutherland recently won a large tournament with this list and it looks and plays great!

Stealthy Hood is the biggest new inclusion. It both protects you from Galarian Slowbro V (and Toxicroak to increase its damage) as well as Phione‘s Whirlpool Suction against Decidueye decks. Most importantly, it stops Giratina from discarding your Coating. You can win via deck-out against annoying Decidueye decks with your Metal Goggles to reduce damage and Mallow & Lana to heal. Cynthia & Caitlin can even get an additional copy back for you. To fit some things, the count of Crushing Hammer has been reduced, which seems fine. Crushing Hammer is a good card you just add when you don’t have anything better and it’s only going to make a deck better. That’s exactly what’s happening here.

Stealthy HoodCoating Metal Energy

If I’m not mistaken, Sutherland has been maining this deck since the beginning of online events, so between that and the list itself, you can tell it’s quite polished. One final thing to mention is the inclusion of four Coating Metal Energy. Many lists have removed it, but with Centiskorch VMAX moving away from Giratina, it’s a worthwhile addition to combat Fire-type decks.

Play this deck if you enjoy midrange decks that feel a bit more on the control side sometimes. Between Full Metal GX, Lillie’s Poke Doll and Crushing Hammer, you’re sure to annoy some opponents. Sometimes it’s right to treat Zacian V like an Energy disruptor itself. If you can Knock Out big threats, you’ll also be removing their Energy!

If you live by “slow and steady wins the race,” then this is the deck for you. I recommend this list as the way to go when picking up LMZ in the coming days and the beginning of Players Cup III!
