Deck Highlight — Standard Amazing Rare Porygon-Z Box

I’ve got a crazy deck for you today. I ran into this deck while playing some games on the ladder and was intrigued. Porygon-Z usually pops up in some wild decks and this one’s no exception. Crazy Code is the best way to use the Amazing Rare Pokemon from Vivid Voltage, some of which were highly touted with the set’s release, but have failed to make any impact at all on the metagame. The Amazing Rare Pokemon featured in this deck aren’t bad cards, they’re just hard to use. This list makes the very best use of them though with the different Special Energy available at its disposal.

Zamazenta is the perfect counter to Eternatus, Pikarom and various VMAX decks that solely rely on a VMAX attacker. Zacian is excellent against Mewtwo & Mew-GX and simply as a hard hitter when your opponent has a VMAX in play. Raikou strikes me as the worst of the three, but it has its uses. The person I played against had three of them, but I’ve gone down on it because it’s been hard to use effectively; Cramorant V is almost always better! Raikou can use Speed Lightning Energy, boosting this deck’s consistency. For that reason alone, there’s merit to playing more copies. Buzzmosa does go well with Raikou under ideal conditions as it can Beast Game GX for an extra Prize on something you set up for a Knock Out with Amazing Shot.

Finally, Zacian V is even a solid attacker in this deck thanks to Coating Metal Energy. Intrepid Sword is invaluable in the early game for setup purposes as well. This list is built for maximum consistency, although arguments could be made to play something like Hapu instead of one of the four-of Supporters as Grant showcased in a recent article.

This deck can be clunky as you’d expect but the games it works are fun indeed. It’s really cool to use these underappreciated attackers in a meaningful way, especially since they’ve been all but ignored since their release. This deck ramps up with Porygon-Z and while its attackers won’t win the game outright on their own, each provides a unique aspect to a colorful game plan that’s sure to please. Try this deck out if you need something fun to spice up your daily Standard format intake – you won’t regret it (unless you brick)!
