Kaldheim Preview Highlight: Bind the Monster

Bind the Monster

One of Kaldheim’s newest commons, Bind the Monster, could find its place in Pauper as a very cheap and efficient removal spells for blue aggro decks.

I’ve been enjoying the format lately, and I can see this card to be a good addition to Mono Blue Delver, which is already a great archetype in the format. It even managed to win the most recent Pauper Challenge in the hands of lucajak.

With some tweaks, here’s my take on Delver with the newest piece of blue removal.

Pauper Mono Blue Delver by Andrea Mengucci

4 Counterspell
4 Delver of Secrets
1 Dispel
4 Faerie Miscreant
2 Faerie Seer
18 Island
1 Bind the Monster
2 Mutagenic Growth
4 Ninja of the Deep Hours
4 Ponder
4 Preordain
4 Snap
4 Spellstutter Sprite
4 Spire Golem

3 Annul
3 Bind the Monster
1 Curfew
4 Gut Shot
4 Hydroblast

I don’t see this card revolutionizing the archetype, but I certainly think it’ll be a good replacement for Coral Net in the sideboard. Coral Net only served as conditional removal, whereas Bind the Monster can be excellent against the Atogs and Carapace Forgers out of Affinity.

I recently recorded a Legacy video with MonoU Delver and it was definitely lacking a way to interact with Dreadhorde Arcanist, let alone something like Uro, Titan of Nature’s Wrath. Bind the Monster could be a good sideboard card against Temur Delver and although it isn’t able to flip Delver of Secrets like Dismember does, it’s certainly a reasonable option for a blue deck to take.
