One of the best added another title to their resume and Standard rotation hits Arena. This is your week in Magic news.
The week started on Sunday, but we didn’t find out what had happened until Monday. The Arena Historic Mythic Invitational concluded on Sunday but due to technical difficulties the broadcast was delayed until Monday. And so it was on Monday when the world found out that Seth Manfield battled back from the lower bracket to defeat Gabriel Nassif in the Grand Finals of the Mythic Invitational. This is Manfield’s third major title after winning the 2015 World Championship and Pro Tour Ixalan. Already a member of the Hall of Fame, Manfield has put himself into the all-timer category.
We also got our first look at the next Secret Lair. Showcase: Zendikar Revisited will be available on September 25th in both Foil ($39.99) and non-Foil ($29.99) through the Secret Lair website. The drop includes five cards given the Zendikar Rising showcase treatment:
Finally this week also saw the September MTG Arena State of the Game released. While the majority of the announcement was taken up with rotation and renewal, there was also information on two upcoming Masters sets. First up is Kaladesh Masters which takes the concept used for Amonkhet Masters and applies it the Kaladesh and Aether Revolt. The set should be available by the end of 2020.
Pioneer Masters is being pushed back to 2021. This is to ensure that the format brings the necessary Constructed staples to Arena but also provides a robust Limited experience on the platform. Both Kaladesh Masters and Pioneer Masters are part of a larger plan to bring Pioneer to MTG Arena.
