Legacy Death & Taxes Deck List - xjCloud - Top8 Legacy Showcase 4 October 2020
Death&Taxes has been a deck in Legacy since the beginning of time. The deck tries to grind the game with small white creatures powered by Stoneforge Mystic.
The deck is basically the same of the Modern one, with one big upside: Wasteland and Rishadan Port, as well as Thalia, Guardian of Thraben being outstanding in this format since most decks runs Ponder and Brainstorm.
Skyclave Apparition has made Death&Taxes one of the best strategies in Modern, but it has also made it stronger in Legacy, since here too we can exploit the power of Aether Vial and Flickerwisp to gain the most value possible out of Skyclave Apparition.
The tricks you can do with Flickerwisp are countless, and Skyclave Apparition just adds a new one since you’re able to cast Skyclave, target a permanent to exile and then blinking the Apparition with Flickerwisp activating Aether Vial on three, in this way you’ll exile two permanents and will give your opponent back only one Illusion when the Apparition will leave the battlefield.
If you don’t have Vial around, you can still use Flickerwisp to blink Skyclave Apparition, sure you’ll give them an extra Illusion token, but you’ll deal with more annoying permanent, since dealing with 2/2s and 3/3s won’t be a big deal for your creature decks deck.
The playstyle of the deck is very much like a Control deck, you don’t have to rush much, you want to lock them down of casting spells with Rishadan Port, Wasteland and Thalia, Guardian of Thraben, additionally you’ll use Spirit of the Labyrinth, Phyrexian Revoker and Sanctum Prelate to imprison them furthermore while pushing chunk of damage thanks to Stoneforge Mystic.
This is the deck with the best ratio budget / competitive and it is a blast to play, and it’s great right now since we finally have a proper answer to Oko, Thief of Crowns thanks to Skyclave Apparition.
