This is a Temur Aggro deck, which is basically just the classic Gruul Aggro but with playsets of Hydroid Krasis and Uro, Titan of Nature’s Wrath in the mix. The sideboard also features a few blue cards in Negate and Disdainful Stroke. Although the deck has a lot of Gruul aggro staples, it contains four copies of Nissa, Who Shakes the World, which should be helpful in powering out very large copies of Hydroid Krasis or sweeping the opponent’s board with Shatterskull Smashing.
One problem with aggressive decks in general is that they tend to lack a bit of staying power. If the game goes longer, the cards are usually not powerful enough and there are usually not a ton of great hits in a top deck battle. Ken’s deck changes that with the aforementioned Nissa, Uro and Krasis. Uro itself gives a tremendous amount of inevitability, one of the best cards ever at doing so. Hydroid Krasis is basically a great top deck in any game where a deck goes to the mid or late game.
Ken Yukihiro has one of the best deck building minds in Magic, and any time a new deck pops up from Ken I feel compelled to give it a look over, and a try. If you’re into Historic right now, this is worth checking out.
