Paulo Vitor Damo da Rosa finishes 3rd at Worlds!

Channelfireball’s own Paulo Vitor Damo da Rosa finished 3rd at the World Championships happening in Chiba, Japan. The Pro Tour San Juan champion lost to Guillaume Matignon in the semifinals.

However, the Player of the Year race has not yet been decided. If Guillaume Matignon wins Worlds, he would tie Brad Nelson for first place in Player of the Year, setting up a grudge match at Pro Tour Paris next February. The 2010 Player of the Year would be decided by a best of three Standard match.

The live Top 8 can be found at the webcast with Rich Hagon and Brian David-Marshall.

Team Channelfireball has had at least one player in the top 8 of every Pro Tour this year (LSV and Kyle Boggemes in San Diego, the trifecta of PV, Brad Nelson, and Josh Utter-Leyton in San Juan, Brad again in Amsterdam, and now PV once again).

  1. Aaaand the bracket sets up nicely for a PV/Wafo-Tapa final, which would be soooo sweet (assuming PV wins, of course).

  2. I am happy for Paulo and wish success for him but i’m torn because I’d like america to take home POY Brad Nelson DESERVES it.

  3. well. I guess if paulo wins a 2nd pro tour he DEFINTELY deserves it so nevermind would still like to see brad bring home POY but good luck to paulo for sure

  4. Top 8 Worlds in 2006, 2008, 2010… Paulo is a MASTER. This is my called shot for the year, and he certainly deserves to take it down.

  5. Torn on this, had wanted to see Brad as POY. But it would be insane if Paulo took it down, and there’s no doubt he deserves it, so I’ll be cheering for him tonight as I sit in a snowed-in apartment.

  6. Channelfireball has obviously gained legitimacy as a team this year. Congratulations to Paulo, who is very clearly a future hall of famer.

  7. Congratulations Paulo Vitor Damo Da Rosa for finishing 3rd at Magic World Championships 2010!

I am always looking forward to your new articles on this nice Channelfireball site.
