What’s the Pick? Eldritch Moon Pack 1 Pick 2 with Huey

Hi again, everyone! I’m back with some more What’s the Pick? Pack 1 Pick 2 with Eldritch Moon.

Scenario #1

Your first pick: Galvanic Bombardment.

Your Pack

My Pick

Clear Shot.

Your first pick was red and the best red card in the pack is Brazen Wolves. Brazen Wolves is just a flat-out great card. When I looked at the spoiler, it was certainly not a card that I had picked out as among red’s best. In general, it’s not even a card I’d be unhappy to second pick, especially after a first-pick red card.

That being said, Clear Shot is one of the best uncommons in the set. It’s a truly great card and the power level is so high that I’d take it here, even though it puts you into a second color. RG is a reasonable color combination, so I’d proceed with a slight preference for playing both of your first two picks, leaning more toward green, as your green card is better than your red card.

Scenario #2

Your first pick: Somberwald Stag.

Your Pack

My Pick

Ulvenwald Captive.

The best card in the pack is Galvanic Bombardment. Unlike in the previous pack, though, the difference in power level is not great enough to take the card of the color that isn’t your first pick. Ulvenwald Captive is the best green common, and although it is worse than Galvanic Bombardment, it’s not enough worse to pass on it here. It’s also worth a little something that your first pick, Somberwald Stag, is particularly good to accelerate into.

Scenario #3

Your first pick: Dark Salvation.

Your Pack

My Pick

Boon of Emrakul.

This is an interesting choice. Smoldering Werewolf is a significantly better card than Boon of Emrakul. In some cases, even if your first pick was black, I’d go ahead and take the Werewolf. But in this case, your first pick Dark Salvation is just such a good card that you want to be certain you play it. For that reason, I’d take the Boon of Emrakul here—it’s not worth the risk of only getting to play one of your first two picks.

Scenario #4

Your first pick: Elder-Deep Fiend.

Your Pack

My Pick

Exultant Cultist.

Pretty weak pack overall here. The best card is probably Certain Death, but Exultant Cultist is good, too. Also, it is both the same color as your first pick and has great synergy with it. I would take Exultant Cultist here for sure, and I’d try to play an emerge deck, pairing your blue with green if it appears to be open.

Scenario #5

Your first pick: Murder.

Your Pack

My Pick

Choking Restraints.

In this case, you’ve first-picked a black card. There isn’t even a black card for you to consider taking with your second pick. Typically in this case, you want to take the best card unless you have a clear color preference. In this case, the best card is Choking Restraints. BW is a reasonable color combination also, so I’d be happy to choose Choking Restraints here, and just proceed to draft whatever is open.
