We now know every card in Throne of Eldraine, MTG Arena leaves Beta, and Cyrus Corman-Gill Storms his way to a Legacy Grand Prix win. This is your week in Magic news.
Throne of Eldraine
It’s here–the full Throne of Eldraine card list has been unveiled. The next Standard-legal set will have its Prerelease this coming weekend (September 27th-29th) and officially go on sale October 4th. This week we also got a look at every token and Emblem–including a place to store your cards going on an Adventure–and the Promos associated with Throne of Eldraine. On top of all of these we also got the full list for both Throne of Eldraine Planeswalker decks.
There’s more, of course. Throne of Eldraine will offer a Deluxe Edition. Available through Magic’s online store starting October 2nd, the Deluxe Edition will contain 16 Throne of Eldraine Collector Boosters, a set-themed binder, a borderless Garruk, Cursed Huntsman planeswalker card and an art print of Garruk, a non-foil version of Kenrith, Returned King (the Buy-a-Box promo), a 3×3 uncut foil sheet of Throne of Eldraine, and an Arena megacode for Garruk exquisite sleeves and copies (and card styles) for: Garruk, Cursed Huntsman, Charming Prince, The Magic Mirror, Witch’s Vengeance, Bonecrusher Giant, and Questing Beast. The Throne of Eldraine Deluxe Edition will sell for $449.99. The Deluxe Edition will be available in multiple countries, the full list of which can be found in the product announcement.
Magic at TwitchCon
Next weekend, Magic will have a presence at TwitchCon in the San Diego Convention Center. The complete schedule of events and meetups can be found in the link above. They include a community meetup, a panel about engaging with the community, and, of course, a chance to play Magic.
Magic Online Becomes Free
The Throne of Eldraine update for Magic Online includes some quality of life improvements, including drag-to-cast, but the big news is that moving forward there will no longer be a fee to download Magic Online. Starting with the Throne of Eldraine update, there will be the option to have a no-fee account. This account will have a limit of 20 decks per account at any one time and will have the opportunity to participate in New Player events. A no-fee account can be upgraded to a paid account by paying $9.99.
MTG Arena Leaves Beta
The big news with the September 26th MTG Arena update is that the game will be leaving Beta and will be officially released. To celebrate this, as well as the upcoming rotation, Arena will have a launch event where you can play with any card available in Standard. Then on October 6th, there will be a 36-hour event where you will have the opportunity to win every card in Standard (again, playing with any card available in Standard).
The State of the Game also shed some light on upcoming features. These include MacOS support, a friends list, and Cube Draft. The full list of potential improvements and features can be found in the announcement article.
WPN Improvement Grants
To bolster tabletop play, the Wizards Play Network is offering Retail Improvement Grants for game stores. Available only for stores in Canada and the United States, the instructions and application form for the grant can be found here.
Grand Prix Atlanta
With Throne of Eldraine still two weeks away from being released, the Grand Prix at MagicFest Atlanta featured Legacy–a format still reeling from the impact of Modern Horizons. The Top 8 featured two copies of Temur Delver, two copies of Golgari Depths, Storm, Burn, Jeskai Mentor and a Dredge-Hogaak deck. New cards were everywhere, from Wrenn and Six to Elvish Reclaimer. The newest cards in Cyrus Corman-Gill’s deck were two sideboard copies of Veil of Summer. They served him well as the Storm specialist stormed himself to a Grand Prix victory.
