There is no stopping the menace that is Siege Rhino. He has been stomping over opponents in Standard since the release of Khans of Tarkir and this weekend was no different.
Abzan Aggro is a deck we’ve all seen before. Siege Rhino joins forces with Anafenza, the Foremost, Den Protector, Warden of the First Tree, Wingmate Roc, Gideon, Ally of Zendikar, Abzan Charm, and Dromoka’s Command to make a powerful deck that nobody who plays Standard is a stranger to.
Snapping Gnarlid is a pretty innocuous common out of Battle for Zendikar that has become the 2-drop of choice for many Abzan pilots. If you’re looking to get aggressive, the potential for a 4-power attacker every turn is just about as aggressive as you could ever get for 2 mana.
Speaking of aggro, Pitiless Horde has seen almost no play in Standard, but that has been rapidly changing. Several Abzan Aggro decks have started sporting 4 copies of this beater in their sideboards. It may not be long until we start seeing main decks built around the Horde as the amount of damage for the price is really tough to beat.
