Carrie On – Vacation.

Dear readers,

After much thought, I have decided to take an extended break from writing Magic articles. As you may recall, I moved to the U.S. at the beginning of this year to start a new job, which keeps me plenty busy. I have been managing to keep my article writing going; however, it has become apparent to me over the last months that I am currently less and less motivated to actually play Magic. When I am not actively engaged in Magic, even for only a short time, it suddenly becomes incredibly difficult to find something to talk about. In many ways Magic is like news and you can’t afford to be out of date. When I was playing a lot I could always find something new or different to talk about. Right now, though, I just don’t want to commit as much time to playing Magic as required to write articles. ChannelFireball has always been, in my opinion, the best place for Magic content; it’s why I was so thrilled to start writing here and why the decision to stop has been so hard. However, right now I don’t feel like I can provide that content, so the decision to stop is the right one. I might find that, after a break from both committed Magic playing and from article writing, I come back full of vigor—though equally I might not, but that’s for another day.

I wanted to publish this small piece for one reason: to thank you: each and every one of you who clicks on and reads my articles each week, thank you for doing so. I never wrote Magic articles for money or fame. I started writing because I hate creative writing and I wanted to learn to do it better; I stayed because I discovered I loved helping people to play Magic better. Every time someone reached out to me to thank me for helping them improve or to consider something new, that made everything worthwhile. It’s been a long journey. I know I am a much better contributor than I was at the beginning. Thank you for sticking it out for me. I might write for you again one day, in which case this isn’t really goodbye. If I don’t though, thank you for reading, I will miss you.
