Standard Unnatural Mono-Green by Medvedev
This mono-green list piloted by “Medvedev” won the last Standard Showdown on Magic Online. At first sight, it looks like a pretty standard Mono-Green deck, until you get to the five-drop slot. Where you’re normally used to seeing Wrenn and Seven, Medvedev uses Unnatural Growth instead. This deck isn’t really interested in grinding; this deck just wants to go to town!
I tried this list in my most recent video and Unnatural Growth was actually pretty reasonable. It combines especially well with trample creatures like Old-Growth Troll or Werewolf Pack Leader if you activate its ability.
I will say that Unnatural Growth is the type of card that’s much better on the play than on the draw, so don’t be afraid to take it out when you know you’ll be playing from behind and likely forced to make trades, or against decks with a ton of removal and sweepers. I’m not going to tell you that it’s a better card than Wrenn and Seven but it certainly gives the deck a different angle of attack. Don’t forget that it triggers on each players’ turns!
One last thing I want to mention is that I like this mana base a lot better than trying to squeeze in four Lair of the Hydra. It is important to have find three snow lands early for Blizzard Brawl and Lair coming into play tapped later makes it awkward to play more expensive cards.
