Standard Dimir Midrange by Lukas Dusek
This Dimir Midrange list from Lukas Dusek caught my eye in a recent MTGO deck list dump. There’s so much going on I don’t even know where to start.
First of all, this deck gets to play Iymrith, Desert Doom and Zareth San, the Trickster, two of my favorite cards from recent sets that somehow don’t really see any play. Iymrith seems especially good in a format where Goldspan Dragon plays a big role and where killing a five-toughness creature is almost impossible. There’s removal, sweepers, counters, solid pressure with early creatures and even Memory Deluge. This deck looks like a combination of Izzet Dragons and Rakdos Aggro.
Test of Talents in the main deck makes it pretty clear that this deck is targeting the Epiphany decks. Soul Shatter is a nice way to get rid of a Goldspan Dragon without actually giving your opponent a Clue.
I’m a bit skeptical of the Graveyard Trespassers. The body seems pretty weak for a three-mana investment, on the other hand it is fairly easy to flip it into a 4/4. With how many Instants and sorceries this deck is running, I could see playing Sedgemoor Witch in this spot.
Another card that could improve this deck a lot in the Izzet matchup is Skyclave Shade. It’s extremely annoying for them if you play it on turn two and they usually only have one or two Spikefield Hazard to really get rid of it.
This deck looks cool and it seems like there is a lot of potential to improve it as well.
