Standard Anti-Winota Rogues – Deck Highlight

Standard Anti-Winota Rogues by Luis Scott-Vargas

Winota is the deck to beat in Standard right now, and I think Rogues has a good shot at doing just that. Control decks have largely been pushed out, but Rogues can adjust accordingly, and Into the Story is still a fantastic card. This is the Anti-Winota Rogues list I’d recommend right now. For reference, the best-performing Naya Winota deck has a 66.6 percent win rate according to Untapped.gg from Platinum to Mythic – and is the best performing Standard deck as well.

The game plan hasn’t changed – you still are looking to mill the opponent to turn on all your Into the Stories and Rogues, and can play as aggro or control as needed. Let’s talk about the new additions.

Header - Card Choices

Ray of Enfeeblement

This is a big one. The main appeal is that it kills Winota for just one mana, even through Selfless Savior. It can also kill any other white creature and even pick off small things of other colors. I wouldn’t leave home without three of these.

Power Word Kill

I like this more than Heartless Act right now. It misses Goldspan Dragon and Faceless Haven, but kills creatures with counters just like that.

Hive of the Eye Tyrant

I’ve tried this and Hall of Storm Giants, and this is way better. Menace is nice, exiling graveyard cards can come up, and it even enters untapped early.

Crippling Fear

Main deck Crippling Fears are strong in the current meta. This is one of the swingiest cards, as it’s dead against control, but it’s perfect against any creature deck.

Winota

Winota

+1 Lullmage’s Domination +2 Ray of Enfeeblement +1 Dead Weight

-4 Merfolk Windrobber

Removal is much better than a card that can’t even get past Jaspera Sentinel.

Gruul Adventures

Gruul Adventures

+1 Lullmage’s Domination +1 Dead Weight +2 Cling to Dust

-1 Ray of Enfeeblement -1 Merfolk Windrobber -2 Disdainful Stroke

Gruul usually has two to four escape cards, and you want to cut Disdainful Stroke and Ray of Enfeeblement. Against the Magda version, keeping a Ray in isn’t bad.

+1 Soul-Guide Lantern +1 Test of Talents +1 Negate +2 Ray of Enfeeblement

-4 Merfolk Windrobber -1 Of One Mind

Counters for Zenith Flare and removal for Flourishing Fox help a lot post-board.

+3 Skyclave Shade +2 Mystical Dispute +1 Dead Weight +2 Cling to Dust +1 Negate

-1 Ray of Enfeeblement -2 Disdainful Stroke -4 Ruin Crab -2 Crippling Fear

Skyclave Shades are a great threat, and make Ruin Crab a liability. Some counters are decent, and Cling to Dust helps fight graveyard battles.

+1 Test of Talents +1 Negate +2 Mystical Dispute +3 Skyclave Shade +1 Cling to Dust

-4 Ruin Crab -2 Crippling Fear -1 Ray of Enfeeblement -1 Heartless Act

Shades are good against removal and help pressure them, unlike Ruin Crab.

Header - Ruining Their Plans

Rogues is a solid contender right now, and if you have the deck and like it, there’s no reason to stop playing it. Good luck, and may you always snipe Winota with a timely Ray.
