Pocket Craterhoof! – Modern Neoform Affinity – Deck Highlight

Modern Neoform Affinity by Hamudamtg

For those of you who started playing Magic after the Mirrodin block came out around 2003, you might have heard about an Affinity deck in Modern. That deck had very little to do with the actual keyword “affinity for artifacts”, as it mostly just revolved around cards like Arcbound Ravager, Cranial Plating and Mox Opal

The real Affinity was a busted Standard deck around in the next couple of years after Mirrodin and Darksteel came out and revolved around, you guessed it, cards that actually say “affinity for artifacts” on them.

NeoformCraterhoof Behemoth

This Modern list from Hamudamtg is as close as it gets to the original deck, with cards like Frogmite and Myr Enforcer, but has a nice little twist in a playset of Neoform, which helps you turn your seven-drops straight into Craterhoof Behemoth, which should usually set up a lethal attack right away.

Myr EnforcerSojourner's CompanionThought Monitor

Normally, getting to seven-drops takes quite a while, but Myr Enforcer, Thought Monitor and Sojourner’s Companion all have affinity for artifacts, meaning that with the help of cards like Memnite, Ornithopter, Springleaf Drum and the artifact lands, you should usually get it into play on turn three without any issues.

Urza’s Saga is obviously another busted addition to this deck from Modern Horizons 2, making it even stronger.

Wear // TearNature's Claim (Timeshifted)FragmentizeForce of Vigor

In the sideboard, I would suggest adding a few cards that can deal with stuff like Stony Silence or Blood Moon, especially if they have already resolved. Cards like Wear // Tear, Nature’s Claim, Fragmentize or perhaps even Force of Vigor could be decent options.

This deck looks like fun and brings back some really good memories (or bad ones, depending on which side you used to play on) from the good old affinity days!
