Playing All the Artifacts in Historic UW Affinity

Historic UW Affinity by Martin Juza

When looking at recent metagame trends on Untapped.gg, I noticed this UW Affinity deck. I fully expected to see some aggro with Tempered Steel, but it looks like this deck is more interested in the actual keyword affinity. This is one of those decks that looks a bit all over the place on paper, but it could be worth a try to see how it actually works in practice.

The Blackstaff of WaterdeepIngenious SmithOswald FiddlebenderEmry, Lurker of the Loch

There are some suspicious cards like The Blackstaff of Waterdeep and Barbed Spike, but it all makes sense when you get to the part with Ingenious Smith, Oswald Fiddlebender and Emry, Lurker of the Loch, which should give you a decent amount of card advantage and card selection.

Mox Amber gives this deck speed and the big payoff cards here are Nettlecyst and Thought Monitor. One thing I would definitely change is the Deserted Beach in the mana base. This deck wants to play an untapped land every turn of the game early, so playing Seachrome Coast makes a lot more sense and should improve your mana base by a decent amount. \

The sideboard has a lot of situational silver bullets for Oswald to grab, which definitely makes sense, but overall seems a bit weak to me. That’s to be expected when you mostly have to stick to the card type archetype.

Is this deck Tier 1? Definitely not, but if you’re trying to surprise your opponent with cards they won’t be expecting, it could be a fun choice.
