Oops All Emrakuls – Modern Transmogrify Combo – Deck Highlight

Modern Transmogrify Combo by Vashezzo

I was looking at some recent 5-0 Modern League deck lists and this Transmogrify combo from Vashezzo caught my eye. It’s similar to the one deck built around Indomitable Creativity in Historic, although this one has a lot more powerful cards.

Dwarven MineTransmogrifyEmrakul, the Aeons Torn

The idea is pretty clear: get a free token from Dwarven Mine and use Transmogrify on it to turn it into Emrakul, the Aeons Torn

At first, I thought that it was a bit surprising that this deck only has five ways to make a creature: the four Dwarven Mines and one Shark Typhoon, as unlike Indomitable Creativity, Transmogrify actually requires you to have a creature. But then I realized that this is Modern and you can just get your Dwarven Mine out of your deck with a fetchland, which is really smooth.

Wrenn and SixTeferi, Time RavelerNahiri, the Harbinger

A full playset of Wrenn and Six tells you a good story about the format. Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer being so popular makes it a really high value card. Obviously, bringing back fetchlands from the graveyard for free doesn’t hurt either. As for the other planeswalkers, Teferi, Time Raveler protects your combo and Nahiri, the Harbinger is another way to get Emrakul out of your deck.

Chalice of the Void (Timeshifted)

Chalice of the Void is an interesting main deck inclusion, but playing it for one is going to stop your opponent from playing cards like Path to Exile while you aren’t actually running any one-drops yourself.

Starting on turn two is something that would make me a bit scared in a format as fast as Modern, but who am I to argue with a clean 5-0 record!
