Need a Finisher in Izzet? Try Standard Temur Control Instead!

The SNC Championship is in the books. Congratulations to Jan-Moritz Merkel for taking it down with Jeskai Hinata. The tournament saw a ton of interesting archetypes pop up, one of them went under the radar and deserves more attention. My fellow MPL Member Noriyuki Mori and his team brought Temur Control to the tournament.

Titan of IndustryFable of the Mirror-Breaker // Reflection of Kiki-Jiki

Izzet Control has been lacking a good finisher/stabilizer. Weirdly enough, splashing for a GGG card is the way to fill this void. With all the Treasure producers in the deck, getting a Titan of Industry down ahead of curve is totally feasible.

Temur Control preys on the midrange decks of the format. The combination of Izzet Control cards, Fable of the Mirror-Breaker and Titan of Industry ensure victory against Jund, Esper and Grixis Midrange alike. In particular, the combination of Reflection of Kiki-Jiki copying a Titan of Industry is hard to trump in the late game. I assume the reason why Temur Control didn’t quite make the center stage of the SNC Championship was for one the team’s poor performance in Historic and second its unfavorable matchup against Jeskai Storm.

If you’re looking for a strong control deck for the ladder, Best-of-One or Best-of-Three, Temur Control looks to be a great choice going forward.
