Modern Grixis Death’s Shadow – Deck Highlight

Modern Grixis Death's Shadow by Corey Baumeister

With so many Solitudes floating around, you might think that it’s time to send Death’s Shadow to retirement. However, Corey Baumeister thought differently, boldly registering four copies of it for the SCG Invitational like in the good old days. He was right though and thanks to his Modern deck of choice, he managed to 7-1 Modern and guarantee a spot in the Top 8 with Grixis Death’s Shadow!

His Grixis Death’s Shadow list left Gurmag Angler and Street Wraith behind to welcome Lurrus of the Dream-Den as his companion, in order to get some free card advantage with the many cheap threats and of course Mishra’s Bauble.

The most interesting card of the deck is certainly Dress Down, which is excellent in combination with Death’s Shadow, since the creature will become a 13/13 regardless of your life total, that could be a blow-out and steal the game in any situation.

You can also play Dress Down at the end of your opponent’s turn and then keep it for your whole turn. This can let you cast and keep your Kroxa, Titan of Death’s Hunger, which can definitely make the difference against any matchups where the opponent can’t easily deal with it, especially if you cleared the coast with a discard spell on turn one.

I haven’t even mentioned the Modern Horizons 2 red specials of Dragon’s Rage Channeler, Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer and Unholy Heat, which shockingly render Lightning Bolt obsolete in this deck!
