Modern Bant Ephemerate – Deck Highlight

Modern Bant Ephemerate by CFTSOC3

Today’s deck, Modern Bant Ephemerate, showed up in the last MTGO Modern League 5-0 lists and it also apparently won the last Modern Showdown, so it seems appropriate to give it a highlight. It also was ranked #14 on Reid’s most recent Modern Power Rankings. If you think this deck is pretty sweet and want to try it in paper, click the Streamdecker link or check out ChannelFireball.com for singles.

EphemerateTeferi, Time Raveler

At first, I thought it was really strange a Bant creature deck didn’t play Collected Company, but this is more of an Ephemerate deck than a Company deck. Since you’re running a lot of creatures that have mana value more than three, you wouldn’t be able to hit them with Company anyway. Teferi, Time Raveler is another card that you really want to run if you’re playing blue and white that wouldn’t really work well with Company, since you usually need at least around 25 hits for it to be great.

SolitudeEternal Witness (Timeshifted)Venser, Shaper Savant

Ephemerate is an amazing value card in this deck that pairs extremely well with Solitude, but also other creatures like Eternal Witness or Venser, Shaper Savant. You also have a lot of other smaller value plays with Soulherder and Thassa, Deep-Dwelling, which can even combine with Stonehorn Dignitary to never let your opponent attack again.

Eladamri's Call

Eladamri’s Call seems to be the glue that holds it together and finds you all these one-ofs that are going to be good in specific situations.

I was also a bit surprised to not see more Noble Hierarchs, but Aether Vial is probably an even better replacement. It doesn’t let you cast a three-drop on turn two, but it lets you do all of the value plays at instant speed, which seems a lot more important.

This deck seems to be a nice combination of Hatebears, Soulherder, Bant Company and Eternal Command (let’s see who remembers this deck from Shota Yasooka) and if this is what Modern looks like at the moment, then I’m actually pretty excited to try it myself!
