Looking at Historic GW Humans Post-Luminarch Aspirant Nerf

I have been thinking what to do with GW Humans in Historic now that Luminarch Aspirant has been nerfed. 

Let me start by saying that I don’t really feel like it needed to be nerfed at all. In Standard, Mono-White was a fine deck putting up decent results, but there are plenty of answers to small creature decks. Spikefield Hazard, Cinderclasm, blocking with Smoldering Egg, you name it. 

In Historic, it almost feels like this change killed the GW Humans deck which, again, was just a fine deck in the metagame that certainly didn’t feel like it needed to be nerfed. Luminarch Aspirant provided a great one-two punch with Esper Sentinel on turn one and with Thalia’s Lieutenant and Collected Company, you were capable of some really nice explosive openings, forcing your opponent to either play into your Sentinel and give you extra cards or fall too far behind. 

This list from AlthMtg replaced Luminarch Aspirant, Elite Spellbinder and Skyclave Apparition with Grizzled Huntmaster and Inquisitor Captain. Huntmaster gives you access to a lot of silver bullets in your sideboard that can solve a lot of problem on board, though I would still like to see a couple of Skyclave Apparitions in the main deck to deal with annoying permanents like Dreadhorde Arcanist or Arclight Phoenix. 

Inquisitor Captain feels like a mandatory four-of in an any white creature deck at this point and I wouldn’t be surprised if at some point it became slightly nerfed as well. 

All of that said, if you’re looking to play a GW-based creature deck and your goal is to maximize your chance to win, I think I would recommend you to try Bant Captain Blink or Heliod Company instead, as both of these decks seem a bit stronger to me at the moment.
