Kaito Shizuki is the newest planeswalker from Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty and it has already found a home in Legacy Grixis Delver! Legacy_Council is a Legacy streamer who’s dominating the Leagues with this deck (19-1 on stream!). He added Kaito Shizuki to the Delver of Secrets and Dragon’s Rage Channeler shell, which has proven to be deadly.
Kaito Shizuki has a nice passive ability which will protect it from Prismatic Ending or opposing creatures during the first turn it comes down, and then will create some nice card advantage with its +1 ability. It’s -2 isn’t particularly strong, but definitely works well with the first ability, making it into a card advantage machine on its own.
Since we’re splashing black we get access to Snuff Out, a clean and easy way to deal with Murktide Regent without needing to reach into the sideboard for Pyroblast.
Black also gives you access to Plague Engineer, which is much needed in sideboards now that Death & Taxes has become the main way to beat on Delver decks.
Adding a color will obviously expose you to Wasteland, since you’re giving up the safety of an Island and Mountain out of UR Delver, although Kaito Shizuki can be the three-drop that Delver needs to keep up with Uro, Titan of Nature’s Wrath decks.
