Ignoble Hierarch in the New Modern Jund

Modern Horizons 2 is wasting no time, and today’s preview has a card that has Jund aficionados delivering a standing ovation. Feast your eyes on Ignoble Hierarch:

This is an obvious riff on Noble Hierarch, and it’s absolutely going to change how many different decks are built. We know how good it is to get exalted alongside the mana ability and tapping for black and red mana opens up a world of possibilities.

Ignoble Hierarch is perfect for the color-intensive decks that are trying to cast Thoughtseize, Wrenn and Six, Seasoned Pyromancer and Liliana of the Veil, all in a timely fashion. It comes out first, fixes your mana plus ramps you, and even meaningfully contributes to combat.

Let’s take a look at what an updated Jund list looks like.

With 17 turn-one green sources, the deck won’t have trouble casting turn one Ignoble, and it maxes out on Bloodbraid Elf and Liliana to take advantage of the extra ramp.

This may not quite be Deathrite Shaman, but it’s not far off, and I for one welcome our new Jund overlords.
