Historic Gruul Shamans – Deck Highlight

Historic Gruul Shamans by Martin Juza

I’ve been eyeing out this Gruul Shamans deck for a long time now, and quite frankly the only reason why I haven’t tried it yet was a lack of wild cards. I picked this list from Untapped.gg, where it had a 66.5 percent winrate out of 150 matches between Platinum and Mythic over the last month, which is a pretty decent stat for an off-meta deck.

This deck plays out like a normal fast Gruul aggro deck, except the creatures have a lot of synergistic abilities instead of high power or haste like you’re used to in Gruul Aggro.

Burning-Tree EmissaryHarmonic ProdigyRage ForgerSeasoned Pyromancer

Llanowar Elves, Burning-Tree Emissary and Goblin Anarchomancer give this deck speed, while Harmonic Prodigy enables all the fun stuff. Doubling the triggers of Elvish Visionary, Rage Forger or Seasoned Pyromancer can add up to a very strong board or lethal attack very quickly. On top of that, Collected Company and Chandra, Torch of Defiance provide even more value.

Klothys, God of DestinyRealmwalker

I’m not sure about the three main deck Klothys, God of Destiny in this list. Getting to seven devotion seems fairly easy, but perhaps something like Realmwalker to keep the chain of Shamans going could be even better, especially because you can also easily find it with Collected Company

This deck can win by pressing an early aggression, by comboing off or by playing the value game with Company and Chandra. I’m not going to tell you that you’re going to win the next big Historic event with it, but it seems like a solid proactive tribal deck if you’re into that kind of thing.
