Historic Dimir Control – Deck Highlight

Historic Dimir Control by The Pantheon

The Pantheon testing group based around Reid, Huey, LSV and Nassif amongst other people came up with this really well tuned Historic Dimir Control deck for the MPL/Rivals League Play this weekend.

The expected metagame was a lot of Izzet Phoenix, Azorius Auras, some of the Indomitable Creativity Combo and blue decks in general, thanks to Brainstorm being the most powerful card in the format at the moment.

Cling to DustNarset, Parter of Veils

Against Izzet Phoenix, this deck has three Cling to Dust main, in addition to other annoying cards for them like the four copies of Narset, Parter of Veils.

Baleful MasteryExtinction EventLegion's End

This deck isn’t at its best against aggro, but against Azorius Auras, you have a ton of exile effects like Baleful Mastery, Extinction Event and Legion’s End, which play nicely around their Selfless Saviors.

Shark TyphoonCommence the EndgameSearch for Azcanta // Azcanta, the Sunken Ruin

Against other blue decks, you can sit on your counters and make tokens with Shark Typhoon and Commence the Endgame at the end of their turn. Search for Azcanta is also really strong in all these slower matchups and the main way this deck is going to close games.

Overall, this deck seems really well positioned if you expect exactly these decks, but be aware of aggro – you aren’t that well equipped to beat decks like Mono-Red or Mono-Black Aggro on the Arena ladder. However, if you draw Legion’s End at the right time, anything is possible even in those matchups.

If you want something else against aggro, you can put an extra copy of God-Eternal Kefnet in your sideboard. That card can win you the game single handedly, especially combined with effects like Brainstorm.
