Historic Abzan Reanimator by Santo Grillo

Today’s deck is a Historic Abzan Reanimator deck with Yorion, Sky Nomad as a companion, played by Santo Grillo in the most recent Hooglandia Open.

This is a cool deck – I haven’t seen anything like it. It uses cards like Tymaret Calls the Dead, Stitcher’s Supplier, Grisly Salvage and Liliana, Death’s Majesty to fill the graveyard. From there, it uses Unburial Rites, either from hand or from the graveyard, or Liliana to return large creatures like Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite¬†from the graveyard.

The large creatures in this deck, for the most part, are also castable. Thragtusk and Noxious Gearhulk only cost five or six mana and combo great with Yorion from the companion zone. Elesh Norn is a bit more expensive, but certainly castable as well.

The downside I can see to this deck is that there’s a bit of graveyard hate because of all the Phoenix decks. The deck has Thoughtseize to grab particularly problematic cards, but also can simply cast its cards and win. Still, having the graveyard shut off could be a significant problem.

Overall, this looks like a fun deck and worth trying out.
