Deck Highlight: Standard Temur Lukka

Standard Temur Lukka by Anthony Lee, #1 Mythic Arena Ladder

The Temur Adventure shell of Edgewall Innkeeper, Brazen Borrower, Bonecrusher Giant and Lovestruck Beast has proven its worth in Standard for over the year. Today’s deck is once again exploiting this powerful engine, but pairs it with Lukka, Coppercoat Outcast and Koma, Cosmos Serpent.

This deck list was used first by VinnyMTG to win a Standard Challenge on MTGO, and then by my friend Anthony Lee to reach the top Mythic spot on the Arena Ladder with a 12-0 run!

Lukka, Coppercoat Outcast (Borderless)Koma, Cosmos Serpent

You ideally stall the board and get value with Adventure cards and finally use Lukka, Coppercoat Outcast’s -2 ability on one of your three-drops to put Koma, Cosmos Serpent immediately into play.

This Lukka deck isn’t like the previous Jeskai one with Agent of Treachery; Lukka’s +1 ability is actually relevant here since you play a large number of creatures that you can put directly into play. Remember – you can also cast the adventure side of the spell with his +1! If you suspect that your opponent’s holding a Giant Killer or Heartless Act, just +1 your planeswalker and grind them down. I got to win a game with Lukka’s -7 ability and I swear that I’ve never seen anybody do that before.

The Akroan War

The Akroan War is an interesting addition here since you’re able to steal your opponents’ creature and then exile it with Lukka’s -2.

I’ve also tried to brew up an Obosh, the Preypiercer version of this deck, giving up Fire Prophecy, Negate and The Akroan War for an extra card in your opening hand. I can’t say I got amazing results, but if you want to give it a try, this was my list.

This deck is really good against aggro decks, but it struggle against control, which is just what you’d expect from a midrange deck in Standard.
