Deck Highlight: Standard Abzan Midrange

Standard Abzan Midrange - Tyler Smith

Export to:

Abzan decks are always just an excuse to play all the best cards in Standard, presenting some powerful threats and packing great removal. The list Tyler Smith brought to the second CFB Clash is no different.

There is no angle this deck isn’t prepared for. Scavenging Ooze to clean out the graveyard, Skyclave Apparition and Murderous Rider to remove threats, Elder Gargaroth to gain life and even Archon of Emeria to slow things down for your opponent, this is just a very, very well-stocked deck.

The MDFCs are also a big part of the list, which solves the problem decks like this often have, with playing a lot of lands and flooding out. Instead of that you can drop an Emeria’s Call, Agadeem’s Awakening or Turntimber Symbiosis in the late game to drive home your advantage.

This is also a list that takes full advantage of Mythos of Nethroi, which means you can destroy effectively anything that threatens you.

Rounding out the list is a planeswalker package including Nissa of Shadowed Boughs, Garruk, Cursed Huntsman and Vivien, Monsters’ Advocate. These walkers are threats that are hard to remove and build a boardstate that’s very tough to keep up with.
