This past weekend was MTG Vegas, with two main events; Modern and Limited. There wasn’t a ton of standard action, and for that reason, the rankings are pretty similar to last week, not a ton of movement.
Mono White still has the top spot this week, a low curve aggressive deck featuring Thalia, Guardian of Thraben. The deck is fast and powerful and gives the slower decks a run for their money. Mono-White had a 59.5% winrate this week according to Untapped.gg.
Mono-Green has been a great deck for a while, and definitely got some new tools. That being said, I think the cards didn’t dramatically improve the deck, even though it’s a bit better. The crux of the deck is similar, though it’s a little more aggressive now, which is great. The deck still makes the best use of Blizzard Brawl, which at maximum efficiency, is the best removal spell in the format. Mono-Green has a 64.2 percent win rate according to Untapped.gg.
Izzet Ephiphany is still the “deck to beat”, even if its third in the power rankings. Izzet is the deck where people use as the barometer for making it reasonable to even play a deck in my opinion. As long as we can copy Alrund’s Epiphanies, Izzet will be a reasonable choice in standard. Izzet Epiphany had a 57.3% winrate this week according to Untapped.gg.
Hullbreaker or Epiphany? I prefer Hullbreaker, but the worst seems to still prefer Epiphany, slightly, so Epiphany is a little higher in the power rankings. Not enough pilots for data this week from Untapped.gg.
5. Jund Dragons
Jund is a powerful deck, with great cards from three different colors. The Dragons are hard to kill and interact with, and do huge chunks of damage relatively quickly. Jund has been on a bit of a rise recently, with a 60.0% winrate this week on Untapped.gg.
Izzet Dragons is not particularly flashy, but still the reigning World Championship deck. The deck has access to various cards and could be innovated on with cards like Hullbreaker Horror from Izzet Control. To be honest, mostly Goldspan Dragon is what defines a deck as Izzet Dragons, but these Izzet decks do tend to have a lot of overlap. Izzet Dragons has a 65.4 percent win rate according to Untapped.gg.
7. Mono-Black Zombies
I haven’t seen this deck around a ton, but the deck has a great winrate. Champion of the Perished is a great one drop, and black does have access to discard to fight the various Izzet decks. Mono-Black had a 57.8% winrate this week on Untapped.gg.
This is a strong aggro deck, capable of very powerful draws based around lifegain synergies. The deck can get card advantage with Pyre of Heroes and Orah, and is capable of very fast kills under optimal conditions. Orzhov had a 55.5% winrate this week on untapped.gg.
