A Former Standard All-Star Breaks Explorer! MTG Explorer Izzet Fires

Explorer Izzet Fires by Arne Huschenbeth

Today, I have a Standard all-star archetype for you that has been proving itself in Explorer. ExoticRoller achieved #11 on the Mythic Ladder with Izzet Fires. I took his list for a spin on my YouTube channel and while I was skeptical at first, I quickly realized the strength of the archetype.

Fires of InventionCavalier of FlameFable of the Mirror-Breaker // Reflection of Kiki-Jiki

In short, with the namesake card Fires of Invention on the battlefield and five lands in play, you can do some really messed up stuff. At that point, Cavalier of Flame in conjunction with one or two more creatures can deal an insurmountable amount of haste damage. Cavalier of Flame providing Reflection of Kiki-Jiki with haste is a neat bonus interaction causing even more damage.

Keruga, the Macrosage

For the price of not being able to play spells with mana value three or less, Izzet Fires gains access to Keruga, the Macrosage. Paying the companion cost is trivial when you have Fires of Invention on the battlefield. Overall, it’s some great synergy.

The matchup against the format boogeyman Rakdos Midrange is favorable for Izzet Fires. The six Cavaliers and Keruga, the Macrosage provide you with inevitability and late game punch.

I’ve made some adjustments to the list from ExoticRoller and I welcome you to try this deck if you want to beat up on Rakdos Midrange.
