A Blast from the Past! Legacy Jeskai Stoneblade is Back

Legacy Jeskai Stoneblade by JankyB

UW Stoneblade lovers rejoice! Jeskai Stoneblade recently got a Top 8 spot in Sunday’s Legacy MTGO Challenge. What we see here is truly a deck of the past, with plenty of removal spells in Swords to Plowshares, Prismatic Ending and Fire // Ice paired with a ton of counterspells like Force of Will, Force of Negation and Flusterstorm.

Three copies of Snapcaster Mage is certainly something we aren’t used to see anymore in modern Magic, but they play very nicely with the wide range of cheap removal spells around.

Four copies of Brazen Borrower are definitely sending a message to the many Marit Lage tokens out there, as Lands and GW Reclaimer keep on winning Challenge after Challenge. Thanks to Boseiju, Who Endures, these decks have more resiliency to hate enchantments like Blood Moon and Back to Basics, which is why you see JankyB relying on Ruination in the sideboard to hose opposing nonbasic lands.

I’m usually not a big fan of Stoneforge Mystic in Modern because the common play pattern is that your Stoneforge Mystic gets killed and you’re left with a useless Kaldra Compleat or Batterskull in hand, but in Legacy, it’s a different story since Brainstorm can get rid of your Equipment with fetchlands.

I am a tiny bit surprised of a lack of Umezawa’s Jitte or Lion Sash in the sideboard¬† to increase the toolbox option with Stoneforge Mystic, but the red splash is definitely nice to give you access to premium sideboard options like Meltdown and Pyroblast.
