Top 5 Best Karn Wishboard Targets from The Brothers’ War MTG

The rich are getting richer in The Brothers’ War. Mono-Green Devotion, widely considered the best deck in Pioneer, is about to be even stronger once the new set enters the format thanks to a suite of new options for the deck’s Karn, the Great Creator artifact wishboard. An artifact set having powerful artifacts? I, for one, am shocked.

Mono-Green’s wishboard has evolved a lot in the months since Winota, Joiner of Forces and Expressive Iteration were banned in Pioneer back in June. Cards such as Ratchet Bomb, Shadowspear, Heart of Kiran, Ancestral Statue and Karn’s Sylex have come and gone periodically depending on metagame shifts and player preference. The Chain Veil was once a niche, under-the-radar inclusion to facilitate comboing with fewer resources and less devotion, but now the card is as stock as it gets. Sometimes players have brought actual sideboard cards – Skylasher, Voracious Hydra, Nissa, Vital Force or even Portable Hole splashed off a playset of Temple Gardens. Other times, all 15 sideboard slots have been devoted to the wishboard.

These days, depending on who you ask, there are anywhere from 10 and 13 hard locks in the Mono-Green sideboard:

  1. An artifact land (either Treasure Vault or Darksteel Citadel)
  2. Tormod’s Crypt
  3. Pithing Needle
  4. Damping Sphere
  5. Reckoner Bankbuster
  6. Heart of Kiran
  7. Pestilent Cauldron // Restorative Burst
  8. Transmogrifying Wand
  9. Esika’s Chariot
  10. The Chain Veil
  11. Skysovereign, Consul Flagship
  12. God-Pharaoh’s Statue
  13. Meteor Golem

But now, with The Brothers’ War on the horizon, all these preconceived ideas of how your Karn wish roster should look will need some updating. You’re going to need to find room for some new faces.
