Post-Ban Standard Mono-White Aggro: MTG Deep Dive

White Weenie is a classic and effective archetype. In my opinion, Mono-White Aggro is the simplest and cleanest aggressive strategy in Standard. It can be successful at any level of competition, piloted by players of any experience level across both Best-of-One and Best-of-Three alike. I recommend it to diehard aggro fans as well as to anyone looking for an entry point into the format.

Best of all, I think Mono-White is the most obvious winner from the banning of The Meathook Massacre.

The Meathook Massacre

This card preyed on decks that rely on small creatures. Because of the scalable nature, it’s less vulnerable than other board sweepers to white’s disruptive elements like Thalia, Guardian of Thraben. It also tended to appear in problematic midrange decks featuring plenty of other removal spells. And due to the life gain clause, it was especially difficult for the aggro player to rebuild after being swept by a Massacre.

Now all of that changes, and white creatures have a chance to shine again. Let’s revive this beloved archetype, and even try out some new weapons like Guardian of New Benalia and Anointed Peacekeeper, which never got their fair chance in a Meathook Massacre world.
