Modern Yawgmoth Combo – Deck Guide Update

The following is a real exchange on Magic Online when I was playing Modern Yawgmoth Combo, with my opponent’s name redacted.

1:01 PM: Turn 1: *****

1:01 PM: ***** plays Arid Mesa.

1:01 PM: ***** activates an ability of Arid Mesa.

1:01 PM: ***** casts Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer.

1:01 PM: Turn 1: reiderrabbit

1:01 PM: reiderrabbit plays Overgrown Tomb.

1:01 PM: reiderrabbit casts Young Wolf.

1:01 PM: ***** has conceded from the game.

Ragavan players don’t like having to attack through a bunch of undying creatures. That alone might be enough to sell you on Golgari Yawgmoth in Modern. But if it’s not, then by all means, read on!

Creature-based combo decks have always been strong in Modern. From the days of Birthing Pod, to Devoted Druid/Vizier of Remedies, all the way to Heliod/Ballista and Kiki-Chord. Yawgmoth is the most popular and successful of these combo decks right now. It’s fast and powerful with resilient threats, efficient tutors and overwhelming card advantage.

It’s also a strategy that greatly rewards experience. So if Yawgmoth interests you, pair this Deck Guide with plenty of gameplay reps, learn from your mistakes and watch as your results continue to improve over time.
