Before Modern Horizons 2, one of my favorite cards in the format was Soulherder. I spent many days on stream playing various flicker shells, using the dynamic duo of Soulherder and Ephemerate without a care in the world.
The possibilities seemed endless. I played Jeskai shells with Felidar Guardian and Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker that could make Soulherder infinitely big via infinite Felidar blinks. I loved four-color versions with Chord of Calling and lots of toolbox cards. I even got second place in back-to-back Modern challenges with a Bant list featuring Uro, Titan of Nature’s Wrath and Mystic Sanctuary.
Unfortunately, after the release of Modern Horizons 2, these decks all started to meld together into 80-card Yorion, Sky Nomad variants and it was hard to see much reason to play Soulherder in most of these lists. That was, until last week, when a Twitch user by the name of spys212 sent me a draft for a 60-card Bant deck featuring Soulherder. The list was a little rough around the edges, but after a couple drafts and revisions, I’ve hammered out the following 75.
At the time of writing, I’m 31-7 with the deck and have found it to be a good choice to combat Murktide, Hammer Time, Omnath, Amulet Titan and Burn. The deck does seem to struggle versus Tron and Living End however, but thankfully you have some effective sideboard options to try to hedge for those matchups.
I just wanted to state that I subscribed specifically to see this article from Spike. Amazing work!
I also subscribed just so I can see this article from Spike 😀
Subscribed for this as well. Great deck and guide. Having fun playing it and watching spike kick butt with it
