Kamigawa Alchemy Brews – RB Midrange with Nashi

There are a lot of good looking aggressive creatures that make me excited to try to build an aggro deck with Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty. I started by getting hyped over Nashi, Moon Sage’s Scion and wanted to build Mono-Black Aggro. Then I realized I probably want something more expensive to hit off of Nashi and thought about RB Midrange because that way I’ll have access to some really good creatures like Town-Razer Tyrant and Goldspan Dragon

Then I saw Kumano Faces Kakkazan and Rabbit Battery, two new good red one-drops and suddenly I wanted to go Mono-Red. But why not put it all together and try Rakdos Aggro with Tyrant and Goldspan at the top of the curve? Thanks to all the great double-faced cards, we can afford to run more lands than normal without risking flooding out too much, so let’s see if we can make it work.

Header - Card Choices

With the deck I have in mind, I’m looking for one or two good one-drop creatures. But actually good – no Fireblade Charger or Hall Monitor kind of quality.

Black has a problem that it just doesn’t really offer anything in this department. I refuse to play Shambling Ghast or Eyetwitch in an aggressive deck, or really any kind of competitive Standard deck for that matter. These cards are just too weak. There are some other options like Forsworn Paladin, Dungeon Crawler or Valentin, Dean of the Vein, but these cards are even worse. Adding red gives us some decent new options though.

Kumano Faces Kakkazan // Etching of KumanoRabbit Battery

I’m excited to try Kumano Faces Kakkazan because it seems really good on turn one and even later in the game, it’s never going to be a dead draw.

Rabbit Battery is another card that looks good to me at first sight for many reasons. It deals a couple points of damage early and then it can make your three-power creatures big enough to attack through Smoldering Egg or trade for a Goldspan Dragon. Haste is huge, especially since I’m going to be trying to maximize the power of Nashi. With Rabbit Battery in play, my opponent will never be safe from a potentially game swinging hit.
