Last weekend saw the return of the Arena Open, a two-day tournament where Limited players are able to test their skills (and certainly luck) for a chance to win big cash prizes. Earlier this year, it was announced that this format, previously spread across Limited and constructed play, would be exclusively Limited for the entirety of 2023. This was a huge announcement for players like me who seldom get opportunities to compete for high stakes playing the game I love. I sat down at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning with a big cup of coffee and got to work!

It took me three tries, but in the end I managed to go 7-2 with this absolutely broken BW deck listed. Even here I had some difficulty starting 2-2, losing to a Koth and Jace along the way, but in the end rattled off the 5-0 to get my qualification for day 2! The first draft on Sunday morning was one of the more interesting drafts I’ve had in this entire format, so I’m going to walk you through it now.
