Analyzing the Mechanics of Alchemy Horizons: Baldur’s Gate

No, it’s not a Commander set, Alchemy Horizons: Baldur’s Gate will be available to draft on MTG Arena on July 7! What’s more is that this set pretty much acts as a “normal” draft set as it’s the main Limited format for the next three months and will even be the format for July’s monthly qualifier event.

While this set isn’t being treated much differently than a Standard-legal draft set, there is one thing that does set Alchemy Horizons: Baldur’s Gate apart from a set like Streets of New Capenna: this is a digital-only set accompanied by digital-only mechanics.

Today, I want to walk through and analyze the three new mechanics found in this set to prepare you for your first few drafts. While I’ll mostly be talking strategic implications of these mechanics, I also hope to make clear exactly how they work because there’s a lot going on with some of them (and when I say some of them, I mean specialize).
