Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty is my favorite kind of sets, one with lots of exciting new options to brew with, none of which have a clear best home or application. Another exciting aspect of Neon Dynasty is that due to the amount of the new support for Vehicles, older cards that have never seen the limelight in Modern are starting to get some attention. One of these cards is one I’ve had my eyes on for years – Consulate Dreadnought.
Dreadnought is a card that’s always had a huge amount of potential. Conditionally offering a seven power creature for one mana, the card has always been begging to be broken. I have fond memories of staying up late with my friends before a tournament, trying to figure out a build of Mardu Vehicles in Standard with Consulate Dreadnought and Siege Modification. Unfortunately until recently, the support for Dreadnought just hasn’t been there, but Neon Dynasty has a powerful enabler that might just help Dreadnought take off.
