  2. It’s not really a poor man’s Grixis Slavedriver, I’d definately have to say that a 1/1 Flyer is much better than a 2/2 Grounder.

At first I thought your Thopter Foundry was a bad pick but I guess it wasn’t so bad after all even if you don’t have 18 artifacts to work with.

  3. Thank you soooo very much for posting the entire draft all at once. It appears that you guys, unlike most sites , listen to the fans!!!

  4. I’m also very thankful that the entire thing was posted at once.

Also: the link below the video to the next video is a fantastic edition. I really enjoy the effort you put into these videos. They truly are probably the best magic content there is online.

  5. Did you consider playing drag down on his druid on turn three since he didn’t have a mountain at that point? You can always trade with the leech the turn after by playing the gargoyle on turn 4. It seems like it would’ve slowed him down a lot to kill it, maybe even cutting off a bunch of his cards entirely.

  6. This guy was actually just the worst. He obviously was the drafter to your right and took the Jund Charm over Tower Gargoyle which is at least a defensible pick. We know he was there due to him grabbing the Goblin Razerunner 2nd from you.

But my problem comes from the fact that he somehow did not take a late Infest with a sweeper already in the bag. I can’t think of many cards I take over a 2nd Sweeper… (and move into 5 color obv, but its me right? heh)

  7. Thanks for posting the whole draft, and as Conley said, this guy was horrible. Trying to play spells during combat damage? He also played REALLY slowly. Good draft though.

  8. Wow, when you realize he took Jund Charm and passed Infest late, it really makes you think. I mean, is there ANYTHING you would take over a second board sweeper there? I mean, did he have to choose between a Caldera Hellion and an Infest pick 5, really? Two board sweepers and a stable mana base means you can actually go five color and still do extremely well in SCR drafting, I believe. I definitely hosed a very nutty UW squire-duelist aggro deck without much ado by having Jund Charm and Volcanic Fallout in my 5C deck.

  9. Wow, your later topdecks were pretty sick…. Gargoyle and Summoner? The god’s of randomness love you.

  10. I hate doing stuff like drag down on druid, since it is such a gamble. If you do something like that and they just draw two land, you basically just wasted a removal spell. Its like in Champions block when you had the opportunity to Befoul their land; sure sometimes you manascrew them but if they just drew some lands you ended up in a much worse position.

Its easier to topdeck when your deck is full of sweet cards to draw ^_^

  11. Did you think about slowrolling the thopter foundry on turn 3 (not playing it), having him attack with leech, you blocking, and when he pumped to save it Drag Down’ing it in response?

    Comment by Doobs — July 7, 2009 @ 4:26 pm

  12. although it worked out fine with trading grimblade for leech, i still think the better play would’ve been to drag down in response to a pump, that way you keep your guy and he loses 2 life.

  13. On the last turn, isn’t it better to sacrifice the thopter foundry to itself in case your opponent has sylvan bounty? If he does you have shafted yourself out of a tower gargoyle.
Tower gargoyle for sylvan bounty seems like a terrible trade for you…

  14. I agree with Sparks about playing around Sylvan Bounty.

Mostly though I just want to second what jevans said:

“I really enjoy the effort you put into these videos. They truly are probably the best magic content there is online.”

By the way, the videos from the last match of this draft were really blurry. The earlier ones were fine, but I had it took some of effort to recognize Razerunners among others.

  15. actully, if he has sylvan bounty and you sac the tower gargoyle first, you can sac the thopter foundry in response to the sylvan bounty. so i take back my previous comment.
